First built and used by commercial shad fishermen on the St. Johns River, the Florida Skipjack dominated the St. Johns shad fishery and became one of the most common type of small sailing craft in Northeast Florida. Volunteer boatbuilders have just completed this project as a working example of the watercraft commonly seen on our local waterways.
